Was a beautiful day today and off we trotted to meet Bev and
collect two dozen fresh free range eggs from her little suburban paradise. The
girls (5) and (7) were quite eager to come along with Aunty to meet the hens
and Bev was so obliging, even to the point of scrambling over a compost heap to
nab one of the younger ones for the girls to hold. Unfortunately they weren’t
having a bar of any of it so Bev’s efforts were in vain but she gave us a
promise of a cuddle next time we visit.
There was a lot of oohing and ahhing when out came twenty
four eggs, all sizes and colours. One was still warm which brought a big smile
to miss fives face.
Then there was the careful transfer of eggs into the basket
we had taken along...Funny how one minute kids can be crashing around like
small wildlife in migration and then next minute as gentle as lambs.
Each claimed an egg which was theirs and so
those we cooked on the bbq tonight for tea...just delicious! Barbequed snags
dipped into the yolk of a fresh free range egg *drool*I can say no more.
The blue ones were definitely the favourite of the day
visually (they really are very pretty) but for taste, who knows...we all had a
different type and we all loved them. I
will slowly make my way through the other twenty one then let you know.
